Healthy Parents Healthy Babies
Our Vision
All parents are healthy and provide for their children, and all babies are born healthy and thrive as infants.
The national crisis in maternal and infant health is closely linked with homelessness and has a disproportionate impact on Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. Healthy Parents, Healthy Babies (HPHB) was established to identify and share strategies for reducing racial disparities, improving housing stability, and enhancing maternal, birth, and child health outcomes for women and families of color facing homelessness or housing instability. The recommendations put forward by HPHB are based on the experiences of women navigating the housing and healthcare systems across the United States and offer a way to address these disparities and improve the health and stability of affected communities.
The HPHB resources include a report, a summary slide deck, a webinar recording and slide deck, and three new, brief videos that feature women who developed the recommendations. These materials inform policymakers, community leaders, and practitioners serving pregnant and parenting families.
New Videos
Two of the brief videos provide a visual context for Destiny and Ariana's stories, which are featured in the HPHB report. They share their experiences and perspectives that informed and support the report’s recommendations. These videos are suitable for public education, advocacy, and practitioner dialogues.
The third video, a short training video, provides deeper insight into the intersection of the housing and healthcare systems as it relates to parents and their children, a greater understanding of the lived experiences of people who have gone through pregnancy while dealing with housing instability, and action-oriented recommendations for policy and practice changes that you can implement. The video can be embedded in training for practitioners or policymakers, as stand-alone content or embedded alongside related topics.
